Colibrys releases a new generation of inertial sensors for harsh environments   19.03.08

Neuchâtel, Switzerland, 19 March, 2008

Today, Colibrys has launch the new MS9000 family of inertial accelerometers specifically designed for harsh environments and safety critical applications.

This new generation of products comes in a LCC20 (8.9mm x 8.9mm) ceramic package, some three times smaller than current sensors and in a variety of g ranges from ±2g to ±250g. These sensors can operate over extended temperature ranges with just a few milli g bias stability guaranteed over extended lifetime. These high quality sensors conform to MIL-STD-883-E as typically required by the aerospace, military and geophysical markets.

Input/Output, Inc. (NYSE: IO) and Colibrys SA, a privately-held firm based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, announced today that Colibrys has completed the acquisition of the Applied MEMS subsidiary from I/O in an all-stock transaction.  Colibrys designs and manufactures high-performance MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems) products and offers contract manufacturing services for MEMS devices to customers in the defense, aerospace, telecommunications, life sciences, industrial imaging, and energy industries.  The new company, which will retain the name Colibrys and remain headquartered in Switzerland, will become one of the largest and most technologically advanced firms in the global MEMS industry.

C.S.E.M. launches Colibrys S.A. as autonomous MEMS manufacturing company

Thomas Hinderling CEO of CSEM announced the founding of Colibrys SA, a spin-off from its former Microsystems Manufacturing Division.

Sean Neylon, formerly Vice President - Microsystems within CSEM, will head up Colibrys as CEO supported by an experienced MEMS industrial management team.

Colibrys specialises in the production of innovative custom MEMS products including micro-magnetic MEMS chips for industrial printing presses; micro-optical components for the telecoms and semiconductor equipment markets and micro-mechanical accelerometers for inertial navigation applications. New product developments are focused on Optical MEMS components for telecommunications; radiation detectors for emerging medical imaging and biotech applications.

The new company is recognised worldwide as a leading source for the design development and production of custom silicon based MEMS products. Colibrys intends to take over all the responsibilities of CSEM as lead partner in the European Europractice - MEMS MC4 flexible foundry cluster.

The business is self-contained within its newly dedicated MEMS wafer fabrication, assembly and test facility near to CSEM. Colibrys and CSEM are currently in discussion with strategic investors and Venture Capitalists to raise some 25Mio SFr for further expansion of Colibrys' existing MEMS manufacturing capacity.

Employing 110 people today and, driven by strong production orders for all its products, Colibrys is seeking to engage additional people of all disciplines in the coming months.
